Report

Call of Duty are published and owned by Activision, Infinity Ward and Treyarch are the developers. The Call of Duty series has sold over 175 million copies and has made over 10 Billion dollars. Call of Duty is one of the biggest game franchises in the world. It started on a windows platform but soon moved to console and handhelds. Over the years Call of Duty has changed loads. With its new futuristic feel, the game feels smoother and even though the game is advanced the controls still stay basic.

Call of duty (COD) is a first person shooter video game franchise. The first few games were based on World War 2, such as Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, and Call of Duty 3. After that the Call of Duty games became more modern and brought out games like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare which was released In November 2007. Then the Call of Duty franchise brought out world at war and Modern warfare 2. After this the Call of Duty games moved away from the World War 2 theme and become more modernised. Call of Duty Black Ops was then brought out in November 2010 and was based on the Cold War. Call of Duty was becoming more and more popular, with millions playing around the world. The call of duty game took a huge leap as they went from making a War game set in the past to making a near-future game which was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which released November 2011. After this near futuristic game the Call of Duty franchise brought out Black ops 2 in November 2012, which is present day as it takes place in the year 2015. Call of Duty skipped from present, past and future a few times to see which sold more copies. Although this was hard to tell as the Call of Duty franchise was getting bigger and bigger. Call of Duty: Ghosts was released in November 2013 but the game was also based in present day 2015. The Call of Duty franchise took another jump into the future with Advanced Warfare. The game was released May 2014 and had all new futuristic features that cod has never had before. This was the biggest jump Call of Duty has made and was very successful. Recently Call of Duty have brought out there latest game which is Black ops 3 and this was also based in the future. This had  more futuristic features and it has a more futuristic feel to the game.

On this report I am focusing on Call of Duty Black Ops 3. This is because it is the latest game and everyone is talking about it, it’s a good game to start and has many new features I have tested myself such as the wall running and he double jump. And these are very good new features as you could never wall run on cod before and you could never double jump and glide. Below is an image of the new wall running feature and I really like it as it gives you a way to attack your opponent from another angle.

The picture above is the wall running feature in action. It shows how you can attack your opponent from another direction and it can also get you to advantage points. It shows the target and it shows the player is using the wall run feature to kill the enemy.

Here is a video of YouTube that shows you the basic wall running and double jumping on Free Run mode. The first time you do the Free Run mode you will get prompted with a tutorial as it is a new feature and no one will know all the techniques. The tutorial teaches you how to use the wall running and double jump features to breach your opponents and kill them. It gives you a new way to enter a building or a new way to travel faster across the map and a new way to get more kills.

A recent survey proved that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is the most anticipated game so far, beating Fallout 4, Assassins Creed: Syndicate, Star Wars: Battlefront and Halo5. The information that has been gathered is from Nielson insight group and they are the ones who have leaked the information of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 to be the most anticipated game so far. A link to the webpage is below so you can see the information for yourself.

Although many surveys show that Call of Duty isn’t in the first place as there are games like super Mario that people have played for years and still play today. The survey shows you that there are many games in the world that beat Call of Duty to the number one spot and it could surprise you as this day and age you wouldn’t expect many people to play games such as super Mario as much as Call Of Duty or FIFA, as these are newer games that are on the market and are advertised a lot more than games like Super Mario. This is because they are more recent games and make a lot more money, it also can depend on what platform the game is on, such as Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo. Games that tend to be on PlayStation and Xbox get a lot more advertisement than Games on Nintendo, this is because they make more money to advertise certain games.

I did a questionnaire of my own to find out for myself what the public think of the game, I asked 150 people. 117 people said they enjoyed the game and they would play it again. 26 people said they didn’t like the game for many reasons and 7 people said they weren’t sure if they liked it or not but they did say they would like to keep playing it and see what happens in further gameplay. There is a link below that takes you to a page where we created the questionnaire. We got very positive feedback of the am although some females said they didn’t like it as much as games like FIFA as the controls aren’t as hard. https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/3NNR6WG

There are some awesome statistical facts about Call of Duty such as:
·         * Gamers play almost 2000 years of Call of Duty a day.
·         * Call of Duty has been played more than 25 billion hours.
·         * 18 billion multiplayer matches have been played.
·         * Call of Duty’s daily players could fill up 80 of the world’s largest sports.
·         * 31 billion care packages have been dropped.
·         * 100 million people have played Call of Duty.
·         * Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 made more money than Hollywood during is launch.

The statistics for that is unbelievable, this shows us that Call of Duty is a really big franchise and has made a lot of money due to how many copies they sell considering 100 million people have played Call of Duty, that is a lot of copies that would have been sold which is a huge profit for Call of Duty.

For the survey that we handed out, I was shocked to see that so many plays Call of Duty and so many people would recommend it; I knew the statistics would be high but I never thought they would accumulate the percentages they did:
·         * 94% of people have played Call of Duty before. (In my opinion I thought only about 60% would have played Call of duty but I was wrong by a lot).
·         * 98% enjoyed playing Call of Duty. (I again only though about 65% of people would of enjoyed it).
·         * 100% of people said they would recommend the game to someone else. (This is the one that shocked me the most, everyone we asked said they had someone they would recommend the game too).
·         * 99% of people said they would play it again. (In my opinion I was thinking in the 70% region but I was wrong by a long shot).
·         * 81% of people said they would pay full price for the game and it is worth every penny. (I was thinking more in the range of about 40% which is half that).

The results I seen was really shocking and I did not expect them to be what they were. The one that shocked me the most was that 100% of people we asked said they recommend it to someone they knew. This is the whole 150 people that we asked in the questionnaire. This proves that Call of Duty is a big company and obviously excelling with the games that they are selling. Call of Duty is expanding every time they bring out a game with over 150,000 new players each time. Call of Duty/ Treyarch have workers who specialise on making Easter Eggs for games to find. In Call of Duty Black Ops 3 which is the latest Call of Duty, there was a video that an employee made which says this Call of Duty they are making a really big Easter Egg which they hope the public won’t find. Gamers set out to play the game first to leak as much as they can into finding the steps to complete all the Easter Eggs. I will link a video below so you can watch where one of the leaders for creating the Easter Eggs tell us that there is a big one in Call of Duty Black Ops 3 and he challenges the public to find it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hqIFNAzysU

The audience for Call of Duty is males between ages 18 and 35. Although most teenagers play the game and it’s not just males as a vast majority of females play Call of Duty. Even though Call of Duty/ Treyarch aim for males from 18 to 35 they still manage to appeal to teenagers and females. This shows how big they are as a franchise and it shows they are expanding the company as many more teenagers and females are playing the game which is making more of a profit. I personally think Call of Duty age limit to buy the game should be lowered from an 18+ to a 12+ as this would attract many more customers for them as teenagers will buy it themselves instead of getting an adult to pay for them. Although the game is violence and guns, people should realise by now that it isn’t real life and zombies aren’t real and you can’t use violence. But I understand why Treyarch keep the age limit 18+.

Personally I think that the Call of Duty audience will expand a lot more, as Call of Duty recently are getting a lot more public, with more events, posters, TV advertisement, leaflets, recommended from other games, in shop windows. With a bunch of new players coming in, Call of Duty, in ten years, I think they will have triple the players they have online today. I think Call of Duty will be a game that never stops, as it is probably the most played game today, as it’s very recent and brings out a new game every year. Whereas games like FIFA, have to end at some point, as they won’t call FIFA in 10 years FIFA 26. It is possible that they will do this but there’s o much FIFA can change whereas Call of Duty can bring out new maps and new features every year and make the game better for the players. As well as making new Easter Eggs, new story lines, new characters, new weapons, new wonder weapons, new pick-ups, new Pack a punch, new layouts and new box items. The list goes on. Call of Duty can keep changing things every year and if people don’t like it the next year they can take it out and replace it with something else and see if the public likes that. This is how Call of Duty has developed itself over the years and they will continue to do this every year so they get more players and make more of a profit and become a bigger and better company.

Types of Research

Types of Research

Primary Research:
Primary Research is factual information that has been studied by someone. Primary research is new research and it is original. Which means it’s not been copied of anyone or anything as this would be secondary research. It also means that it’s been studied for, as if the person was carrying it out for a specific answer to a question. This could be done in many ways such as surveys, independent interviews, group interviews or questionnaires. These are just the typical way of finding out primary data.
This is an example of a Primary Research. It’s a questionnaire. This would be given out to the member of the public and asked to be filled in because it is someone else filling in the questionnaire that he has made it is primary. Because he made tis questionnaire himself, it is primary and not secondary.

A link to my own questionnaire I created for purposes of this, my questions revolved around fitness. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L2VF9Q6

This is my sources for Primary Research:

Secondary Research:
Secondary Research is an interpretation of Primary research. Someone would use primary research to help them write an article using the information they collected from the primary research. Secondary research usually takes two sides of primary research and compares them. It is called secondary research because it isn’t their own research they are using others research to write their own opinion and use the facts they’ve found out.
This is an example of secondary Research. Using other peoples, blogs, newspaper articles, pie or bar charts…  Anything that has been studied by someone else and then you use it to write your own is Secondary research.
This is my sources for Secondary Research:
Quantitative:
Quantitative research is where you do questionnaires or surveys in a structured way to get people’s opinions so you can use them to produce facts and statistics. To get reliable results it’s important to survey a large amount of people and make sure they are your target audience.  Once you have collected the results, they get used in a tale or graph as this is an easy way to represent large amounts of data.

When doing quantitative research it uses both mathematics and statistics. When analyzing the data most likely you will use a program such as Microsoft Excel, this is because you can use formulas at help interpret the data better and is easier to put in a chart or in a graph. An example of this would be “What’s your favourite bar of chocolate?” and it would be a multiple choice question as this is the best structure to use. These would be put into Microsoft Excel and a table would be made then once the table was made, the data would get put into a chart, most common would be bar or pie chart.

This is a chart I made using Microsoft Excel and it shows you different ways to present your data. The question was “what is your favourite chocolate bar?” and below is the table showing the results. The charts around it are the ways of representing the data that has been collected. I believe the pie chart is the best as it gives you a percentage and you can see what the majority of people enjoy most. This in this case is Dairy Milk which is the leading brand.

For this survey I asked to 700 people “what is their favourite chocolate bar?” From my survey I have found out that Dairy Milk is the most liked chocolate bar and Kit Kat is the least liked chocolate bar. I chose to survey 700 people as I thought this would help it be a fair test, as more people will be deciding. I could use the internet to see if my survey results are fair by comparing it to the leading brands of chocolate.
So I used the internet and by the looks of it my survey results are fair as Dairy Milk was the public's most favourite and is the leading brand. Also Galaxy is the public's second most favourite as it also shows in the picture (left) that it’s the second most leading brand. This shows that the survey results I used were correct. This is how quantitative data works, the quantity is what matters as the more people that are surveyed the more likely the results will be fair and conclusive.

This is my sources for quantitative Research:

Qualitative:
This is used to develop ideas or hypotheses for potential quantitative research. Qualitative research can also be used to gather thoughts and opinions of a small group of people. The most common method for gathering qualitative data is focus groups or interviews.  The reason why they only choose a small group of people is because it’s their own opinion and not everyone has the same opinion as you so if it’s large amounts of people you will be asking you will be getting a lot of different answers. The qualitative data can be used as quantitative data. This is done by the qualitative data being put into a graph and used for studies.

This on the left is a focus group. As you can see there aren’t many people in the group and they are each holding a piece to a jigsaw puzzle. In the center of the table there is a completed jigsaw with one piece missing. They are all holding he right piece but it’s in different colours. This is because they all have an opinion and tats were it links to qualitative research as their opinions can be represented differently.
